If social media were “Analog.” (tee hee.)
Delving into the start-up world means having to don an even wider array of attire choices. Since you’re doing everything, you’ll need to look a number of parts.

What part of your wardrobe as a small business owner or freelance writer do you think needs the most help?
Be Outrageous. A lot of writers are shy flowers. Decide to be different - be the big mouth, the party animal, the one who wears a big purple hat everywhere, or maybe a woman posing as a man. Bust a move. Do something edgy and wild. And you will make a name for yourself.

The advice in Tice’s post works for your online presence, no matter what it is. If you’re selling you (or your business) daring to be different is worth the effort.
Dear Tumblr Addicts: Fake Scientist Will Cure Your Symptoms
Dear Students, Teachers, Janitors:
Fake Scientist here — the author of your favorite fake science blog. If our lab’s calculations are right, most of you have been back in school for a while, experimenting with glue inhalation and testing if Bunsen burners can ignite human hair. You’re probably just finishing your fourth reread of our new 272-page textbook, Fake Science 101. Though it was banned in Houston — because of a supposed “lack of facts” — Fake Science 101 covers everything from earth science to astronomy, complete with handy charts and quizzes to keep you occupied during lectures. But while we know that real science is what keeps most of you up at night, the Internet is what keeps us up — and breaking away can be difficult. Our research is here to help. With Tumblr as our guide, we’ve identified five ways to know you’ve got an Internet addiction problem — and, of course, how to solve it.

Friends Don’t Let Friends Auto DM.
This public service announcement was brought to you courtesy of Public Frog Media.
Seriously, folks. While some SEO and marketing researchers will tell you that auto-dms bring great click-through numbers and results, the fact is that many twitter users find auto dms to be an annoyance and a disturbance. Some users will even un-follow your twitter account, report you as spam, and complain about this to their followers.
The last thing you want to do when introducing someone to your brand on twitter is to make a bad impression on them. Think of your twitter stream as another service or product you provide. You want to make yourself available to customers and potential customers, but you don’t want to run them off, either. Reserve direct messages for specific correspondence with those following your brand.
While it may take longer, thanking your followers individually via a regular reply is a much more personal approach and encourages discussion. Make sure your profile bio includes an up-to-date link to your website to ensure that your followers know how to find you.
